You can contact your regional Access to Work contact centre to check whether you can get help. Alternatively, ask the Disability Employment Adviser (DEA) at your local Jobcentre Plus about the Access to Work grant scheme. Here’s the process:

1. The AtW Adviser will normally speak to the employer and the employee to arrive at the most effective solution. In the majority of cases, this can be done over the telephone; however, a visit can be arranged if necessary. Sometimes specialist or technical advice may be needed, which the AtW Adviser will help arrange.

2. The specialist adviser (e.g. dyslexia specialist) will arrange an appointment to visit the individual in the workplace to carry out an assessment of needs. The specialist then writes a report recommending appropriate equipment, support and adjustments and forwards it to the Access-to-Work adviser.

3. The Access-to-Work adviser uses the report to help decide on the support required. The Employer is then responsible for arranging the agreed support.
